DEFINING FRENCH INFLUENCE IN DESIGN

The design direction for the #ModernFrenchHaven project is inspired by the fusion of classic and modern elements, with a strong influence on timeless French design. The incorporation of curved details and arches plays a central role in shaping the aesthetic, adding a sense of elegance & sophistication to the overall look. Ornamental concepts further enrich the design, offering intricate touches that reveal charm and character.

The French influence was a defining factor for this home, creating a space of refinement and romanticism. By drawing inspiration from French design, #ModernFrenchHaven aims to evoke a feeling of luxury while integrating modern details to ensure a fresh and relevant appeal.

To maintain a cohesive and contemporary feel, a palette of neutral tones will be applied throughout the home. These muted hues create a sense of balance and serenity while allowing for flexibility in personalization. This will result in a design concept that gracefully combines classic beauty with contemporary functionality.

FOCAL POINTS: KITCHEN AND MUD ROOM DESIGN

We are most excited about the kitchen in this home, which exudes a monochromatic elegance. The French-inspired arches and curved details add depth and character to the kitchen transforming it into a space that stands the test of time. In the design of this space, the inclusion of brass accents plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall aesthetics. Whether it’s in the form of fixtures, handles, or ornate details, the brass elements not only add a sense of luxury but also contribute to the French-inspired design.

Additionally, the curved hood design is a distinctive feature that further reinforces the French influence within the space. The sweeping lines and graceful curvature of the hood design evoke the architectural motifs often seen in classic French homes. This carefully crafted element serves as a focal point, providing a sense of authenticity to the overall design.

Equally captivating is the mud room. Combining botanical wallpaper and ornate tile flooring creates a captivating visual element. The stunning cabinetry color, complemented by modern pendants and the use of mesh metal on the drawers, adds a layer of interest and sophistication to this space. It’s a beautiful blend of classic and contemporary design.

2023 Colors of the Year

Color theory plays a pivotal role in interior design, influencing the mood, atmosphere, and overall aesthetic of a space. By understanding the principles of color theory, we, as interior designers, can effectively manipulate colors to create corresponding or contrasting effects, stimulate specific emotions, and enhance the functionality and visual appeal of a room.

Whether it’s through the selection of a dominant color scheme, the use of complementary accents, or the strategic placement of colors, a deep understanding of color theory empowers designers to transform ordinary spaces into captivating, purposeful, and visually pleasing environments.

The annual “Color of the Year” analysis provided by our luxury paint vendors holds immense significance for us. It equips us with the latest color trends, ensuring that the spaces we design remain both aesthetically pleasing and cutting-edge. Delving into the intricacies of color theory, we gain insights into its impact on mood, ambiance, and psychological perception within interior spaces.

The 2024 Colors of the Year

In the unveiling of the “Colors of the Year,” we’ve discovered that several of our preferred paint brands have selected a “Color of the Year” within the blue color family. This choice aligns with one of our signature brand colors at Alisha Taylor Interiors, a medium-dark shade of cyan-blue (similar to Benjamin Moore’s Newburyport Blue HC-155).

Each member of our team has carefully chosen one of the 2024 “Colors of the Year” as our source of inspiration and crafted enticing storyboards around each. Explore the remarkable designs our team has put together below:

Emma Mauvais, Business & Logistics Director — “The color blue has always been connected with feelings of peace and tranquility. Within our homes, blue tones can offer a refreshing respite from loud pops of color while still adding flare. Blending a muted blue, like Farrow & Ball’s “Dark Wine”, with organic elements evokes a feeling of groundedness in a space. Incorporating woods, chestnut browns, soft patterns, and pops of gold creates a cohesive and layered look, without compromising the soothing effect of blue tones.”

Rebecca Phillips, Marketing Director “Creating soothing, introspective moments, Dunn Edwards’ ‘Color of the Year’ Skipping Stones, “is a serene and steely blue with hints of green and gray and is meditative & energizing like the sea” (Dunn Edwards, 2023). I paired this deep, rich wall color with a dark, textural tile backsplash, and mood pendant lighting, to set the tone for a unique ambiance. While charcoal cabinets and warm tone accents, such as cognac leather chairs and wood plank ceiling treatments enhance the modern refinement, this bar lounge design makes for the perfect destination for an unforgettable home experience.”

With Blue Nova leading the way, depth and intrigue are balanced by an undercurrent of reassurance. This alluring mid-tone features an enchanting duality, capturing the spotlight with endlessly classic appeal” (Benjamin Moore, 2023).

Marti Diehl, Junior Designer — According to Farrow & Ball, “Selvedge is named after the highly prized denim woven on a shuttle loom to produce closed edges. It’s particularly good in low-light spaces, creating a familiar and friendly atmosphere, making it suited to bedrooms or rooms you spend time in, in the evening” (Farrow & Ball, 2023). Using Selvedge for the bookshelves paint color, this particular library design reflects a homey ambiance and creates a sense of calm, perfect for enjoying a good book nestled on the leather sofa in the evening hours.

Embracing the Legacy: The Last Generation of Furniture Makers

by Emma Mauvais, Business & Logistics Director

Furniture Makers
Designed by Jorge Upholstery

In the world of luxury interior design, furniture crafted by skilled furniture makers offers more than functionality; it is a statement of artistry, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance. In an era dominated by mass production and automation, this essence of authenticity is often overlooked. While there exist groups of artisans, manufacturers, and trade schools who have held steadfast in their commitments to preserving the craft of furniture making, many say this will be the last generation to do so.

Craftsmanship Under Pressure: The Diminishing Art of Hand-Crafted Furniture

Mass production, with its efficiency and cost-effectiveness, has undeniably reshaped the interior design and furniture industry. It has created a gateway to trendy, stylish, and functional furniture; garnering a broader market of consumers who appreciate the convenience of having a wide array of options readily available. However, amid the allure of practicality, the unmatched quality of hand-crafted furniture is being sacrificed.

using textiles
Pacific Furniture Manufacturing

Earlier this year, while visiting High Point Market, this notion of consumers valuing quantity over quality was expressed by many of the manufacturing warehouses we visited. Since pandemic-era restrictions took effect, lengthy lead times and backlogged production schedules have become common in the global supply chain. Customized furniture that was once estimated to take 8-10 weeks to complete, quickly turned into 20–35-week timelines, if not longer. While these production schedules have incrementally improved, the talented hands creating these pieces are dwindling.

Many custom furniture makers, textile artisans, wood and metal specialists, and other trades involved in the realm of luxury interior design and furnishings have expressed growing concern about declining craftsmen and women. Many of these trades are generational, skills passed down through families and learned over time through traditional apprenticeship approaches. This is commonly seen in areas such as High Point, North Carolina, a globally recognized hub for furniture manufacturing with strong generational community ties. However, in other areas across the United States, such as Arizona, those time-honored skills and practices are not as prevalent.

Fostering the Next Wave of Artisans: Shaping Futures in Interior Design

So, where does the next generation turn to?

The next and newest generation of creators will have greater access than ever before to hone their skills, fine-tune their creative and technical crafts, and become changemakers in the always-moving world of luxury interior design. Now more than ever, accessibility to trade schools and programs is top of mind. By promoting and spreading awareness of these curriculums and their subsequent career paths to students venturing forward in their education, there lies a beacon of hope for a new wave of skilled artisans. From creative-driven aspects of the field to more hands-on and technical avenues, the opportunities that await future students are vast, and much like the design industry, are continuously growing and evolving.

Our Mission to You

Interior design and furniture curation are about more than just aesthetics; they’re about creating a home for our clients, one that exudes elegance, individuality, and timelessness. When a client’s home is outfitted with hand-crafted furnishings, the high-end, artisanal quality is unquestionable. At Alisha Taylor Interiors, our goal is to make each one of our clients feel at home in their living space. We believe that your home is the one place you can escape to after a long day, a place to host and gather with family and friends, and a place that represents growth, memories, and stability. We do what we do in order to make your home beautiful and livable for the life you want to live within its walls!

Interior Design Home Inspiration: A Complete Guide to Finding Inspiration for Your Luxury Custom Home

by Mia Schultz, Junior Designer

So you want to build a luxury custom home? Congrats! The very first step is finding inspiration to learn and communicate your personal style.  This is a fun and exciting step! It’s important to know what to look for when searching for luxury interior design ideas. There are many great resources for interior design; however, it can become a tad overwhelming at times. Narrowing down your inspiration photos and ideas is what will help your interior designer interpret your needs and desires to create a dream custom home that reflects your style & personality.

In our initial interior design meeting, as designers, we collect & gather your ideas & aesthetics and ask lots of questions about your personal life, technical details on your family’s dynamic, as well as color palettes & influences. Here at Alisha Taylor Interiors, we have a personalized process that helps us accurately interpret and understand your luxury home style!

Tips on Finding Inspiration:

  1. Our most important tip for how to find home inspiration for your luxury custom home is to have fun!
  2. If you like it, tag it, screenshot it, save it! Don’t worry that it’s a picture of a home not in our area, not in your budget, or doesn’t seem in line with other photos you’ve saved.  Your designer will make sense of what you love.
  3. Pinterest serves as an excellent resource for discovering inspiring photos to share with your designer, whether it’s a captivating color palette, eye-catching tiles, or entire home layouts that perfectly represent your style. Collecting these on a Pinterest board and sharing them with your designer will help bring the design patterns that stand out to you. Just Pin it & have fun!
  4. Social media can be another great tool for finding strong concepts of design. We recommend looking up specific style hashtags or referencing other designers that have caught your eye. Instagram is an effective space for designers to share updated work & projects. So feel free to screenshot and share them with us!
  5. Design blogs have a lot of insightful information & can get you thinking about topics & questions to refer to your designer. Research can never hurt! Blogs are also another great place that can showcase stunning designs.
  6. Digging through home décor magazines can be another effective source to find dream home inspiration. Magazines provide insight on the latest trends & resources while providing beautifully finished projects.
  7. Use keywords in your search. Some of our favorite design style keywords include Contemporary, Transitional, and Traditional. It also helps to add a color scheme in your search, such as Earthy tones, Blue/greens, Warm whites, and Dark earth tones. Discovering what specific styles best represent you will help narrow down searches to designs you see fit.

What Information to Share with Your Designer:

  • Information about your current home helps us learn what worked for you in the past, and what you would like to add moving forward. We can translate the traits you enjoyed about your previous home, while also determining what it needs!
  • Think of spaces that lack functionality in your current space. What kind of functions do you need in your new space? Whether it’s a second island, including a study room, or adding more drawers to your closet… the opportunities are endless! As designers, we assess the practicality of your luxury custom home and incorporate features that enhance the ease of daily activities within your home!
  • Learning about your favorite vacation destinations can serve as a rich source of inspiration for your designer, offering cues for creating a luxurious home that mirrors the ambiance, textures, and design elements reflective of your favorite getaways.
  • Exploring the aesthetics of your childhood home can also provide design insight for your interior designer. Reflecting on questions like where you grew up, the distinctive style of your childhood house, and envisioning the ideal lifestyle for your family now allows for a personalized and nostalgic approach. We like to do this to infuse your current home with a sense of familiarity and meaningful design elements.
  • When crafting a custom luxury home, it’s important to factor in your hosting needs, ensuring that the design aligns with your lifestyle. Anticipating the frequency and scale of gatherings you’re expecting to be had in this home, whether for holidays or regular events, allows for the creation of spaces that accommodate a space for welcoming & comfortable social interactions.

Have fun! Remember that this is your dream home, and it will all come together in the end. Having an interior designer means they will spend time with you to discuss the types of spaces and designs you need to create your dream home. Be transparent & allow your designer to fulfill those needs. Inspiration is made to be translated into a new design that best fits your custom luxury home! Understanding your dream home inspiration and bringing it to life is what your interior design team is here for.

Drawing Inspiration: Crafting Tradition with a Contemporary Flair

For this project, the guiding factor was a combination of comfort, tradition, and modern aesthetics. The design direction was driven by the client’s desire for a haven that blends timeless elegance with modern functionality. Interior Design Concepts: Development, Examples, and More

interior design concepts

We are pulling back the curtain a bit today and going deep into how a design develops in the office before you come to the design presentation and see all the beautiful drawings and material samples.

As designers, encompassing your favorite design styles is essential when it’s time to plan your new build or remodel. However, interior design is much more than simply following the latest design trends. There are several key interior design concepts that play vital roles in the design process of any space. Our team of professional interior designers is well acquainted with these concepts and knows just how to introduce them to your space with ease.

What Is An Interior Design Concept?

Interior design concepts are the big-picture building blocks of any room’s design.

These concepts are used as guides to make important design decisions such as what type of high-end flooring to use, what countertops to choose, what artisan piece of luxury furniture will make the space pop, and which dreamy drapery is best for a room.

Think of interior design concepts as elements that work together to create a cohesive and beautiful room. As your interior designer, we will use these concepts through the conceptual design phase to develop your vision and bring it to life.

The Development Process of Interior Design Concepts

You may be wondering, “How is a design concept developed?”. The process is different depending on the interior designer you work with, but in general, we will figure out what is needed to accomplish a beautiful design. We develop those concepts starting with ideas and thoughts and translate them into finishes, cabinetry design, and specific material selections.

Our Alisha Taylor Interiors team is full of design experts, but even we have our favorite interior design concepts! Read on to get a sneak peek into some of our preferred interior design concepts we love to work into our designs at Alisha Taylor.

Interior Design Concept Examples

Let’s take a look at some classic interior design concept examples prevalent in the design industry.

Balance

interior designing concept

Interior design balance is something that all designers pay very close attention to because it can make or break a space’s design. There are different ways to create a balanced look, including symmetry, asymmetry, and radial balance.

Symmetrical Balance is a traditional balance method that uses the same pieces on both sides of a room. For example, an interior designer may place the same small side table on either side of a bed for a cohesive style.

Asymmetrical Balance is less traditional and a more unique style that many may prefer. Instead of matching pieces on different sides of an object, asymmetry comes into play. You may see this in a design element such as placing a large mirror and a smaller painting on opposite sides of a fireplace.

Radial Balance is when items are distributed evenly around a central piece or focal point. This adds personality to a space and can be a great design concept to use for those with eye-catching staircases.

Focal Point

interior design concept examples

When you walk into a room, there’s always that one element that draws your eyes immediately. This is the focal point. A design must have at least one focal point to feel complete. And if there is more than one focal point you must make sure they don’t compete for attention. One should lead, one should then follow.

That classic four-post bed frame with a lovely duvet you’ve dreamed of in your master bedroom is a coveted focal point example. Other design elements would fall secondary to the bed frame since it is the emphasis of the room. Focal points can play a huge role in balancing a space.

Harmony

interior design concepts

Harmony is used to unite spaces in your home together. Your small details fall perfectly into place among the chosen furniture, creating a concept of cohesive serenity. Harmony works alongside balance to bring serenity and comfort to your home design.

Unique Details

interior designing concept

Unique details go a long way in luxury home design. Adding gold accents, a statement chandelier, or unique details such as an interesting ceiling can give your room that extra flair you desire. Never underestimate what those small details and finishes can do!

Rhythm

Rhythm consists of many different elements, including contrast, repetition, transition, and progression. Think of it as having a cohesiveness to your home design that flows gracefully from one room to the next. Rhythm can also appear in a single space, a way for your eye to flow from one element to the next.

interior design conceptsContrast is the art of placing opposing elements together, like choosing a dark-colored throw pillow for your lighter-colored lounge chair.

Repetition calls for specific pieces recurring throughout a space to create rhythm, such as using a color scheme or pattern across multiple rooms or design aspects.

Transition has to do with where your eyes naturally flow. Creating smooth transitions between spaces increases the balance and harmony of your home. An arched doorway is a stunning example of a transitional element that is smoother than the straight edges of a traditional door.

Progression occurs when you increase or decrease the number of items in a certain area, such as a cluster of candles or a collection of throw pillows.

Hopefully, you now have a better idea of what interior design concepts are and why they are important to a polished interior. Trust Alisha Taylor to be your interior designer and rest assured your home will meet the guidelines that these interior design concepts provide.

What to Consider When Accessorizing

Accessorizing plays a pivotal role when it comes to curating the perfect ambiance for your luxury custom home! Elevating your living space from ordinary to extraordinary requires careful consideration of various elements that harmonize with your home’s design and style.

Here are some key points we, as a luxury interior design firm, like to ponder when accessorizing our luxury custom homes:

Harmonizing Color Palette

A color palette is the foundation of any well-designed space. When selecting accessories, we ensure they complement the existing hues within your design. While neutral tones like white, black, and beige provide a sophisticated backdrop, we don’t shy away from incorporating strategic pops of color. These vibrant accents infuse energy and visual allure into our living spaces!

The Power of Artwork

Luxury homes thrive on the presence of exquisite artwork. Curating a collection of distinctive and captivating pieces that resonate with the aesthetic, highlights these masterpieces in prominent areas. This allows them to serve as conversation starters and focal points that exude refined taste!

Layering and Proportion

Layering textures, patterns, and materials is an art that adds depth and intrigue to luxury homes. Understanding the significance of proportion by considering the size of accessories in relation to the room’s dimensions is crucial. In spacious areas, we like to embrace larger, statement pieces, while smaller rooms can be adorned with delicate embellishments. Often we will integrate a medley of textures, from sumptuous fabrics to sleek metals, to create a multi-dimensional environment!

Embracing Nature

Plants and greenery introduce life and vitality to interiors. Potted plants, succulents, and floral arrangements seamlessly blend with luxury settings, infusing a sense of tranquility and organic beauty. The juxtaposition of nature against luxurious decor creates a harmonious balance that is visually stunning!

Textile Touches

Textiles play a pivotal role in enhancing comfort and warmth in a space. Typically, we soften living spaces with plush pillows, luxurious throws, and elegant drapery. These elements not only provide function but also contribute to an inviting atmosphere that defines luxury living!

Alisha Taylor Interiors Meet the Team
Alisha Taylor, Lead Designer & Owner

Alisha is the magic behind Alisha Taylor Interiors. She has been running her design studio in Arizona for almost 20 years and has been recognized for her award-winning designs locally and nationally. With a B.A. in Interior Design and extensive CAD training, Alisha enjoys combining the technical aspect of construction with the creative side of interior design to create stunning homes that incorporate everything from tile designs to gorgeous furniture.

Alisha’s passion for design started when she was in the 6th grade and she ‘redesigned’ her classroom furniture plan on the back of a school assignment. She arrived at school the next day to find the classroom rearranged based on her design. A note was left on her desk from her teacher that read, “You should think about being an architect or designer someday.” She has been creating and redesigning spaces ever since. When not designing, you will find Alisha cheering on her kids in all their activities from baseball to dance, and then escaping with her husband to travel the country to architecturally rich destinations.

Her sky-high attention to detail and honed technical skills provide a solid foundation for every project she is a part of, including mentoring new designers who have joined the team. MODERN SUNSET Furniture Breakdown

An exquisite new build design nestled in the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona, Modern Sunset is brought to life through the collaborative vision of our interior design team at Alisha Taylor Interiors, esteemed builder, AFT Construction, and renowned architect, Cosan Studio. Drawing inspiration from the enchanting beauty of Arizona, this project artfully melds contemporary aesthetics with the tranquility of sundown. Join us as we unveil the stunning furniture elements that define the Modern Sunset project, an embodiment of contemporary finesse and modern brilliance.

#ModernSunset furniture

In the Modern Sunset project, the contemporary furniture design harmoniously complements the modern materials and finishes, embracing a desert-inspired color palette to create a sophisticated atmosphere. The designers artfully played with desert tones, which perfectly accentuate the natural elements throughout the space. The case goods, showcasing impeccable craftsmanship, feature wood finishes in a rich chestnut shade. This warm and earthy hue adds a touch of elegance while seamlessly blending with the surrounding materials.

Contemporary Design Meets Natural Elements

To enhance the sense of lightness and openness, the upholstery options were thoughtfully chosen in light-colored fabrics. Soft and neutral tones, such as sandy beiges, warm ivories, and pale greys, evoke the tranquility of the desert landscape. These upholstery choices not only contribute to the overall aesthetic but also create a visual balance with the wooden elements, striking the perfect harmony between modernity and nature.

Throughout the living spaces, the contemporary furniture design incorporates clean lines, uncluttered forms, and sleek silhouettes, reflecting the modern sensibility of the project. The careful selection of furniture pieces ensures both comfort and functionality, providing an inviting environment where one can relax and appreciate the breathtaking views that surround the home.

In conclusion, the contemporary furniture design in #ModernSunset beautifully marries desert-inspired tones with chestnut wood finishes and light-colored upholstery. The resulting blend of materials and colors effortlessly complements modern architecture, culminating in a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also showcases a deep connection with its natural surroundings.
